How can we allow people

to participate in the

design of their cities?

The Sandbox is an interactive tool that enables ordinary people to participate in the design of their of their urban environment. It incorporates “augmented reality” graphic technology with an intuitive interface to provide people of diverse background and abilities with an opportunity to visualize and articulate design ideas for their cities.

We are interested in seeing how new technologies can promote participation in places where ordinary people are often left out of the conversation. The Sandbox suggests an alternative to some of the common methods currently used in “public consultations” for urban regeneration projects and a new approach to involving people in the design of their cities.

The Sandbox  has been developed as part of a research project led by Helmut Feder and Gadi Sprrukt as part of the MA Creative For Narrative Environments, Central Saint Matins, London in Collaboration with Fabian Schmidt from the course in media informatics, Ludwig-Maximillian University, Munich.
